Gov. Ato North Star Awards Message
As Starship 3830 approaches touchdown and our year of service draws to a close, we pause to see where we are, what we have done and where we are going in our quest for excellence and achievement in service.
I am very pleased that fourteen (14) clubs have reached the Northstar; and more are drawing close but some still need to travel far. These clubs must continue their journey and remain steadfast in their quest for excellence as they move on with a new crew.
When I envisioned the North Star Award and the Governor’s Awards of Distinction, I wanted to promote a desire to: – Achieve a higher level of performance based on inter-club cooperation and alliances and not competition; – Develop an awareness of the need for balance in each of the clubs’ operations; – Encourage each club to look within itself and see how it can improve its structure, governance, and selection of service activities according to what suits the club and its resources. – To play “SAFE” and make club activities and service projects – Simple, affordable, fun, and effective.
In short, I wanted an equitable and fair measure of club performance regardless of size. I am very pleased that all the clubs have responded positively and today, we give awards in recognition and appreciation for a job well done.
To give meaning and importance to these awards, clubs will be recognized and cited for the following award categories:
1. Rotary International’s Presidential citation for net gain of one member and one activity from each of the 6 categories referred to in the avenues of service. 58 clubs have qualified for the presidential citations representing 78% of the clubs in the District. Accordingly, the District has also qualified for the RI Presidential citation since more than 50% of the club Presidents brought one member during the RY 2007-2008. In fact, our district is number one in membership growth in Zones 7 and 8 (Philippines, Australia, and New Zealand). Additionally, a number of clubs will received RI Citation for peace, membership development and youth service initiatives.
2. The Zone Literacy award for 21 clubs and the District Literacy award for 10 clubs that have given significant support in literacy under the Wilf Wilkinson program.
3. The Governor’s Distinguished Service Awards presented to 71 clubs in recognition of significant service projects for RY 2007-2008.
4. The Governor’s Special Citation presented to 38 Clubs for special achievements in TRF contributions, membership growth, approved matching grants, functional websites, and certain unique projects for RY 2007-08.
5. The Governor’s Awards of Distinction to 8 clubs in recognition of exceptional and extraordinary achievements for RY 2007-2008
6. The North Star Mark of Excellence/Achievement presented to 61 clubs honors levels of achievement in our quest for excellence in club operations and performance for RY 2007-2008.
Congratulations to all my Sharing Presidents for your outstanding service to Rotary. Without your dedication, perseverance and determination to serve to your best, our journey would not have been as exciting, fun, colorful and most of all R E W A R D I N G.
YES, YES, YES, to the year ahead. Let us continue the good work in lending a hand to make dreams real.
Gov. Ato Magadia
