DG Ato's Message of Appreciation

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

My spouse Vicky and I extend our grateful thanks to everyone who made it possible to put together DISCON 2008. From concept, preparation, to execution, DISC0N 2008 was a product of cooperative effort of the District 3830 community.

1. Thank you to the Sharing Presidents for generating 977 pre-registered delegates and a minimal 25 onsite registrants that made it easier for the DISCON committee to plan the DISCON requirements.

2. Thank you to the Filipiniana dance participants – the 12 clusters, my classmates, the “Caring Presidents”, the Rotary Spouses, the GSE Inbound Team from France District 1720, the GSE out bound team to Connecticut and the Rotaractors and Interactors for a great show during the Friday Fellowship night.

3. Thank you to the Sharing Presidents, District Officers, and their spouses or partners for performing the main galactic dance and to the Past District Governors and their spouses for joining me and Vicky in the Governor’s traditional dance during the District Governor’s Ball on Saturday evening. Thank you likewise to the four Sharing Presidents who joined me in sharing their singing talents in an impromptu program.

4. Thank you to the Sharing Presidents who served as anchor Masters of Ceremony and/or Presentors, and the other District Officers and Rotarians who discharged other roles during the sessions. Thank you also to the Rotaractors and Interactors who provided entertainment.

5. Thank you to the District Officers who served as Marshals and program coordinators and to the Rotary Miss Olympics participants who served as usherettes.

6. Thank you to all Rotarians who contributed and/or assisted in organizing an innovative Rotary Window showcasing the various Club service projects on looping video in large screen LCD TV and photo exhibits at the House of Friendship.

7. Thank to all the Past District Governors of District 3830 who lent honor, prestige and support by their presence and participation at the DISCON.

8. Thank you to RIPR Monty Audenart and Spouse Liz for their friendship and enthusiasm in sharing their presence, wisdom and Rotary service experience all throughout the DISCON and for patiently and warmly interacting with the participants. We also acknowledge with thanks RIPR Monty’s home Club, the RC Red Deer East and RC Sylvan Lake both from Canada for sending a large delegation to our DISCON.

9. Thank you to my home Club, RC Makati North under Pres. Joe Reaño for hosting DISCON 2008 and for their unqualified support. Thank you too to PP Tony Chong for putting out an excellent DISCON 2008 souvenir program and to PE Klink Ang for the full-page DISCON supplement at The Manila Times. Thank you to the DISCON secretariat headed by Betty Centeno of RC Makati North for their dedication, diligence and perseverance in attending to the multitude of tasks and servicing the needs of the DISCON participants.

10. Thank you to all our Corporate and individual sponsors whose generosity enabled us to provide the delegates with an excellent venue and business and fellowship programs.

11. Thank you to the DISCON committee headed by PP Chet Tan and PP Pabling Calma of RC Makati North for their unstinting support, passion and dedication in taking full responsibility for organizing and managing DISCON 2008.

12. Thank you to our outstanding speakers, RIPR Monty Audenart, Senator and PNRC Chair Richard Gordon, Dr. Josette Biyo, Fr Rocky Evangelista, Mayor Edward Hagedorn, and Fr Governor Ed Panlilio for sharing their unique story of humanitarian service and inspiring us to be better service Rotarians. More importantly, thank you to all our fellow Rotarians and Rotary Spouses especially the members of each Rotary Club in our District who made time to join us at DISCON 2008.

Ultimately, the DISCON is a personal experience and “we reap what we sow”. DISCON 2008 was all about the District community coming together in friendship to talk about Rotary Service and how we measure up to the Rotary ideal of “Service Above Self.”’ It was all about caring to do our best and sharing our time, talent and resources to celebrate our year of service consistent with our theme “Rotary Shares. We hope you had take-home learning and that you had fun at DISCON 2008.

Warm regards and thank you so much for your cooperation and support

DG Renato “Ato” Magadia
